Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on February 25, 2016 by MaggieFebruary 27, 2016

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Kathy Cheever who was a staunch advocate for Denver’s neighborhoods and INC Chairwoman from 1981 to 1982 and President of the Greater Park Hill Community from 1982 to 1997. Kathy’s life-long civic involvement and work to promote transparent and accountable municipal government will be an inspiration to all who work within and believe in the neighborhood movement.

Neighbors worry Denver flood control project could result in destruction of their homes

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on January 8, 2016 by MaggieJanuary 8, 2016

What if the city forced you to sell your house for a project it promises would prevent disastrous flooding? It’s a threat for as many as 50 homeowners in one of Denver’s oldest neighborhoods.

The controversy is in the heart of the Cole neighborhood just south of the coliseum.

For four years Warren Karberg has called his house near East 38th Avenue and High Street home. “My neighbor here is second generation here. On both sides of me is the same family,” said Karberg.

Public Meeting Storm Water Project

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on January 6, 2016 by MaggieJanuary 8, 2016

The project is an important drainage and community improvement effort led by the City and County of Denver that will provide a foundation to identify opportunities for flood protection during significant storm events. It will also identify opportunities for phased enhanced multimodal connectivity, water quality amenities and other community improvements to the Cole, Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea, River North, Clayton, City Park and Northeast Park Hill neighborhoods.

Short-Term Rentals Have Become a Big Business in Denver — But Neighbors Think They’re a Big Pain

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on December 23, 2015 by MaggieFebruary 3, 2016

No room at the inn on Christmas Eve? No problem: You can still snag a “luxury loft in the heart of downtown,” as well as a “Curtis Park charmer” and a “cozy Capitol Hill apartment.” These are last-minute holiday miracles you wouldn’t have dreamed of finding a decade ago — but that was before Airbnb and other short-term rentals moved in on Denver. But now some residents are wondering if a lack of rules governing such rentals are turning this town into a motel hell.

In the spring of 2008, George Mayl discovered that the owners of the house next door to his in the quiet Cory-Merrill neighborhood of southeast Denver were renting the property out to guests for short-term stays of under thirty days — which is illegal under Denver’s current zoning codes.

Celebrating 40 Years Of Neighborhood Activism

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on December 7, 2015 by MaggieMay 23, 2016

As Denver’s Inter-Neighbor Cooperation (INC) observes its 40th anniversary, its president Larry Ambrose says the neighborhood movement plays a key role in city government accountability.

“Because we have a nominally nonpartisan city government, the elected officials are not responsible to parties or platforms,” says Ambrose. “Through the neighborhood movement, citizens have a voice to advocate on public issues of direct impact.”

Neighborhood Groups Begin To Flex Their Muscles
by Charles Bonniwell
As the Denver City Council is increasingly looked at by some as a tainted and dishonest political entity that ignores the concerns and wishes of residents in favor of powerful real estate developers, many people in Denver have increasingly turned to neighborhood associations and Denver’s Inter-Neighborhood Cooperative (INC) to represent
their interests.
