Denver County Court judge says the city’s urban camping ban is unconstitutional

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on December 28, 2019 by MaggieDecember 28, 2019

The city is planning on appealing the decision. A Denver County Court judge on Friday ruled the city’s controversial camping ban unconstitutional, according to a release from attorneys representing homeless advocates. Denver County Judge Johnny Barajas found the ban to be unconstitutional under the Eighth Amendment, which prohibits “cruel and unusual punishment,” and said it violates both the U.S. and … Continue reading →

Denver marijuana rules for social consumption areas mostly supported in public comments

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on June 16, 2017 by MaggieJune 16, 2017

Denver’s Department of Excise and Licenses will have to decide which group if any it will listen to as it finalizes its rules later this month. The city hopes to start reviewing and approving applications for social cannabis consumption areas and events starting in July.
Prior to a public hearing on the rules Tuesday, Molly Duplechian with the Denver Office of Marijuana Policy said the city received about 70 comments on the rules. More than half were supportive of what was proposed, Duplechian said.

Backers of I-300 want fewer rules for when and where you can use pot in public

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on June 6, 2017 by MaggieJune 6, 2017

Here are some of the I-300 backers’ requests, broken down:

Allow businesses that sell alcohol to also allow cannabis use as long as they’re not being consumed at the same time in the same area.

Make the same allowances as above for events.

Clarify the restriction on having consumption areas near “other places intended for use primarily by persons under 18 years of age.”

Do not make government-issued IDs a requirement to enter consumption areas because consumption areas are already off-limits for people under 21. That way, if someone were obviously older than 21, they could enter the area without ID.

Consuming alcohol and marijuana in Denver businesses could be council decision

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on February 23, 2017 by MaggieFebruary 23, 2017

The Denver group tasked with shaping how Initiative 300 should roll out might want to leave one issue to city regulators and elected officials: Should business patrons be able to consume cannabis and alcohol under the same roof?

The Social Consumption Advisory Committee wrestled with that question Wednesday during its third meeting on suggested rules for social cannabis consumption permit seekers. The choice on whether people can dual consume in businesses might ultimately be made by elected officials.
