The April 2019 INC Zoning and Planning meeting featured these speakers and topics: Brad Johnson of the Community Planning and Development Department and Eric Anderson of Jacobs Engineering updated the committee about the new 250-acre National Western Center and Erica Rogers, Excise and Licenses Department Policy Analyst, described the department’s proposal to allow Liquor Common Consumption areas in Denver.

As well, an update was given on the Group Living Advisory Committee efforts.

he City is starting a new sidewalk repair program, adjacent property owners must still maintain sidewalks, but adds benefit of bulk bids for labor/material to drive down costs along with payment deferrals and reductions will be possible for low-income property owners. The city will have 10 sectors(not along CD lines) which broken,heaved and missing sidewalks that are trip hazards will be assessed. Property owners will be notified of the hazard with an offer to “opt in” as part of the bulk bidding process.

Lloyd Burton – Sierra Club on 1-70,received bad news from the judge on the lawsuit and thinking about a motion to reconsider Random samples need to be taken of soil on dates not known to contractors. He also shared that the national air quality averages though there, can have human health impacts, especially for people with conditions like asthma, are still an issue even if the ratings are lower than standards.

INC PARC MEETING NOTES APRIL 17

Fred Weiss and Laura Morales of DPR distributed copies of Proposed Revisions of the DPR Alcohol Policy, and a “Tentative Timeline” showing the draft policy to be completed May 1, public hearing at Parks/Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) June 13, draft finalized June 27, PRAB vote July 11 with public notification of result July 12. As the proposals were enumerated, attendees raised well considered questions, concerns, and reports of particularly event-related problems encountered with the present regulations (3.2 beer only), expecting these problems would be more prevalent with additional liquor (including hard liquor).

INC EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING APRIL 2017

Change on the Front Range – New Leaders Council Denver (NLC). Ian has been recently involved with this newly created organization. It’s a nation-wide fellowship offering a five-month course teaching people how to, for example, run for office, how to raise funding, develop a ‘personal story’ and how to better communicate in a political world. Ian is asking INC to be a possible financial sponsor. George suggests the topic be tabled until more information can be garnered to make an educated decision. NLC does not have a stated political affiliation. Ian will forward their web site and links to help research NLC.
