Park Hill Golf Club extends its lease for five years, disrupting plan to develop land

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on June 27, 2018 by MaggieDecember 23, 2018

This week, Arcis said that it would extend its lease on the land for five years, according to the landowner. The lease was set to the expire at the end of this year, but Arcis has taken the option to extend it until 2023.

“The golf course land continues to be an asset of the Clayton Trust and its revenue helps support Clayton Early Learning’s mission to improve early care and education during the critical first five years, especially for children living in communities of limited opportunity. Arcis’ decision does not change our mission and we will continue our work educating Denver’s children,” read a written statement provided by Clayton’s public relations firm.

Denver parks officials endorse controversial land swap deal with developer for pocket park

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on May 10, 2018 by MaggieMay 29, 2018

If the deal is approved by the City Council, developer HM Capital would give the city about $650,000 for the design and construction of a city park on a roughly 0.35-acre parcel HM owns on Fairfax Street, south of East 29th Avenue.

In exchange, Denver Parks and Recreation would transfer a city-owned property of similar size across the street — bought with intentions of building a park — to HM for potential redevelopment. The parks department announced its decision in an email to Park Hill community contacts in the late afternoon.

Community Forum Regarding the Future of the Park Hill Golf Course Land

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on February 27, 2018 by MaggieOctober 31, 2019

SEE THE FORUM HERE

The open space future of the Park Hill Golf Course (PHGC) land could soon be in jeopardy. The PHGC is located east of Colorado Boulevard between 35th and 40th Avenues
Clayton’s PHGC lease with the golf course operator could terminate on December 31, 2018 if the operator fails to exercise its 5-year renewal option by June 30, 2018. If the golf course lease terminates, Clayton is expected to ask the City to relinquish the open space protections of the 1997 conservation easement and the 2000 agency agreement and allow rezoning and development of all or a portion of the land.

Denver Debates Hosting a Massive Coachella-Like Music Fest on Public Land

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Posted on February 1, 2017 by MaggieFebruary 6, 2017

Concerns from the roughly forty people who attended the meeting included the impact that 50,000 people plus stages and trucks would have on the golf course; noise, trash and safety issues; the revenue the city would make off the project; and the use of public land for private gain. In response to the safety concerns, Ehrlich said that each festival-goer would be given a wristband with a chip that would allow organizers to track where crowds were gathering.

The Overland Golf Course is within eyeshot of a soon-to-open 7,500-seat amphitheater, run by Levitt Pavilion Denver, a nonprofit that champions local and independent musicians and offers free concerts. But AEG and Superfly haven’t approached Levitt, because the venue’s 7,500 seats wouldn’t be enough for the music festival, said Levitt executive director Chris Zacher after the meeting.

Zacher grumbled that AEG hadn’t shown interest in the Overland Park community or his music venue until the company could find a way to exploit it for profit. “AEG gave Levitt zero dollars” in the half a decade that the project has been raising money, he noted.
